The Faces of Appalachia
I would like to photograph and bring awareness to the people of Appalachia. They struggle with maintaining a normal life while the coal and resources are stripped from their lands. We need to to take notice of their plights and help.
I want to show America the faces of our very own people who struggle with everyday survival. The people of Appalachia are the forgotten, lost souls who live in a coal-rich region of the country. Their lands are exploited by industry, yet money rarely goes back to the communities. So many Americans give money, time and resources to help people from all over the world, yet we have people here who struggle every day -- in the United States of America.
Through photographs of their everyday lives, I want to show people all over the world the struggles the Appalachian people endure. I want to show the hopeful children who try to succeed while the are surrounded by poverty, drug-using adults. I want to show the devastation that the coal industry has done to the land. I want to show the people of Appalachia that the rest of the country has not forgotten them, and that there is hope for a brighter future.

I love this idea. I think the photos of the coal-ravaged mountains and the coal communities damaged by mountaintop mining could be life-changing.

I like your idea, check out mine and vote for me if you like it. Its about poverty and society in 3rd world countries and how they are controlled, devastated by their governments and western industrialized nations.
The country is beautiful, the peoples (mostly descendants of Scots and Irish) are hardy, the families loving. I applaud your dream and am voting for it. Good luck.
