Travels of My Ancestors
To travel the possible routes my ancestors took to get from the east coast to Chicago.
I would like to photograph the 4 ports of entry into the US (Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Baltimore). How it looks now when sailing into each port, the cities, then travel by rail from each one to Chicago taking photos of what they might have seen along the way.
Another route they might have come would be through the Great Lakes, so that would have to be photographed as well.
I know things have changed a lot since they got here, since they arrived in Chicago or the US between the early 1850s through the mid 1880s.

This would be quite interesting. I'm drawn to modern-day links to historical events. Looking in the present at places that formed the first impressions of people whose lives and families were forever changed by their early travels would be terrific.

Sounds like a lot 'o traveling! But what places you'll see ... you may try to visit the Historical societies for each & get a "then & now" view of the ports? I look forward to seeing your photos. Best of luck on your project!

That is a very interesting idea. I like it. I would also like to see photos of the same time period as the original voyages if you can find them. It would be a project but I think it would make it far more interesting and fascinating!

I think that is a great idea. I am fortunate enough to live 2 1/2 hours from where my ancestors arrived and settled. I hope you are able to make your dream come true :)
