If the World Were Made Out of Candy...

To photograph New England's rich history and color, and transition it into a made up world of fanciful sweets and snacks!
Traveling through New England as children, my sister and I would play a game, If the World Were Made Out Of Candy...

New England's autumnal colors, historical buildings, city streets and agricultural heritage make it the ideal place to make our dream world come true.

As children, we would visit our family in New England, taking drives from state to state and ending in a 10 hour drive to New Brunswick. Somewhere along the way we saw a hill with some odd PVC pipes that reminded us of candy canes. Imagination took over and we entertained ourselves for hours with thoughts of, 'If the world were made of candy, telephone wires would be licorice ropes. If the world were made of candy, leaves would be made from maple sugar candies. If the world were made out of candy, rivers would be bubbly blue soda.'

It would magical to take a trip up the New England coast and photograph the countryside. Along the way, I would set up miniature candy versions of bits and pieces of the landscape. Using the Lenovo ThinkPad with its built in tablet, I would transform the real world into the fantastical world my sister and I dreamt of.

A chocolate cow grazing in a field, a businessman leaving his house, unaware of its sudden gingerbread transformation, sailboats with taffy sails floating in blue raspberry rivers, city streets of dark chocolate, and fall foliage with multiple gummi colors, ... all with an eye towards the tasty and upliftingly childish! Each image would portray the sense of the world around being changed as you travel through it.
