Do1Thing

There are more homeless today than at any other time in history. More than 1.5 million of them are youth. Do1Thing is a collaborative photo project that brings together photographers to put a face on teen homelessness.

Do1Thing is a collaborative nationwide effort between photographers and journalists that raises awareness of homeless teenagers and encourages individuals to do one thing to assist them.

More than 1.3 million youth in America are homeless today. Already three out of every ten homeless adults admit to a history of foster and with 25,000 foster youth aging out each year, the next wave of homeless in America may very well be former foster children who were never adopted.

Do 1 Thing will send out a call to action asking individuals to do one thing of their choice to help these vulnerable youth. We put a "face" on homelessness while asking the public to put a face on activism by doing 1 thing to help these vulnerable youth.

The project will spread virally utilizing social networking sites, wikis, blogs and a dynamic web site, providing an intimate connection between need and activism.

The idea is to bring together some of the most recognized names in photography to document this tragic social dilemma. Spreading nationwide, Do1Thing photographers will partners with non profits who work to take homeless teens off the street and provide them with training and counseling to seek a brighter future.

Unfiltered, the teens will tell the stories of how they ended up homeless and photographers will document them. But shining a light on a social dilemma won't solve it. The issues surrounding homelessness are huge, the solutions offered are endless. But what if everyone did 1 thing to help?

I think great change would occur.

Already I've formed a group of more than 32 pulitzer prize winning photographers and some of the most recognized names in photography to donate their time to put a face on homelessness. We started shooting in January and our site is http://do1thing.org

With ZERO financial backing, we're all working together to help these vulnerable youth. Now we need you to visualize our drem and help us accomplish it.

I voted for you. May I suggest that you look at some of the MANY fantastic dreams different people have posted here and vote for the ones you like best. If you leave a nice comment, they can link back to your dream by clicking on your name and you might get a vote from them.

I voterd for you, too. Homeless youth in the USA could be a poignant topic.
But can I ask you to join Himalayan River Runners FB page as a fan? We need support, too, even if it is not monetary.

The time I spent on Valentine's Day at Covenant House in Newark was a blessing -it was like Pim said: If everyone did one thing, we could change the world. I'M ALL IN!!! I've blasted out to an my friends, family enemies, acquantances and people who I can't stand and asked them to vote!

It seems some great ideas are getting lost from lack of votes so if you'll vote for me I will vote for you. Thanks for your idea and vote... Jkava888

There was an article in our newspaper stating that there is a staggering increase in homelessness, especially among our youth. It saddens me that some of the teenagers who go to school with my son are thankful to be there just to stay out of the cold! That is not the way it should be AT ALL!

Good ideas like yours that are not in the Top 100 are nearly impossible to find. This is unfair as many great ideas are hidden. Those of us in the “Sub-100” should work together to promote the best projects of the Sub-100 so that they can be in the Top 100 and be seen. Please vote for best Sub-100s!
