Humanitarian Photography

There are people in the world that can go their whole life without ever seeing themselves. I want to show them who they are: one person, one family, one community, and one village at a time.

This is a trip I've been planning for a very long time. It combines my love for travel, my love for nature photography, and my desire to help people in ways many never thought about.

I would start in either Madrid or Morocco, buy a motorcycle, and proceed into Africa. I would actively seek out people who never had the luxury of even looking in a mirror. Armed with my camera and a photo printer, I would begin to give out individual and family portraits free of charge. People come and go in these communities on a daily basis. Families and friends have only their memories to remind them of their loved ones. How amazing would it be to give them the opportunity to show everyone a picture while they say, "This is my son! He went to America to learn!" or "Here is my mother; she loved and cared for every one of us."

There will be many other needs in each community I visit, and I would help out in any way possible, all the while documenting it with my camera. Along the way the beauties of the natural world would be mine to capture, and to feel like I'm a part of the world and part of the people would be as close to home as I could ever reach. There would be no need to limit myself to Africa, as there are many people in the Middle East and South Asia that live destitute as well.

This project is only one microscopic thing I can do in this world, but even if it touches only one person, I would consider it a success.
