Picture a Pilgrimage
I would like to photograph major pilgrimages from a variety of religions—Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Buddhism.
By photographing these pilgrimages, I will explore faith and what the major religions have in common.
For Buddhism, Bodhgaya is the regarded as the site of Buddha's enlightenment. I would photograph and interview the pilgrims at this Indian site.
For Christianity, every year thousands of Christians walk El Camino de Santiago in Spain to show their devotion. I would photograph ad interview this pilgrims during their journey.
For Islam, a lesser-known pilgrimage is the pilgrimage to Tuba in Senegal. Interviews and photographs with these West African Muslims would share a new aspect of the religion.
For Judaism, the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem is both a historic and holy site. Interviews and photographs of these pilgrims will shed light on the history of the oldest monotheistic religion in the world.
By showing these followers in the same and equal focus, I hope to show what binds the world's religions, rather than what separates them.

Great idea, I'm with you 100%. The more that similarities in religious beliefs are identified, the likelihood is lessened that misunderstandings between those of faith will create lasting negative impressions and prejudices.

Ricci, this is such a creative idea which I think you will learn so many things about the different religions of the world. You are a very creative person & will do a fantastic job!
With the current economic situation causing countries to point the blame at each other, now more than ever we need examples in society of what binds us. Excellent idea!

good project;got my vote. Discouraged by so much patronizing junk in many proposals, i.e., go to remote overseas villages to photo kids w/o ipods. take the metro to anacostia, the bus to new town, the greyhound to Appalachia or drop by my house.
