Shooting Sharks Around the World, Underwater and Topside
Sharks are vital to the health of the oceans. If the oceans fail, life on earth will change forever. I want to show how important sharks are to the oceans -- and how fragile these "fierce" animals really are.
At the top of the (underwater) food chain, sharks are vital to the long-term health of the oceans. If the oceans fail, life on earth will change forever.
Unfortunately, sharks are being removed from the oceans much faster than they can reproduce. Among the many reasons they're being overfished --
* some cultures think they're aphrodisiacs;
* some longline fishermen trap them as "accidental bycatch";
* some recreational fishermen consider them "trophy catches."
For my dream assignment, I will visit coastal communities around the world, document their fishing practices -- both the destructive and sustainable ones -- and show the world how fragile these "fierce" fish are -- and how important they are to human's survival on earth. My images will be both underwater and topside.
