The Beauty of Your Own Backyard

The purpose of my project is to photograph the natural beauty that exists in and around America's major cities to bring awareness of the need to protect and preserve these green spaces.

America is killing its green space in the name of development. Meanwhile Americans spend millions of dollars each year to travel hundreds and thousands of miles to experience the great outdoors. The goal of my project is to let people see what there is to see in their own back yard. The lakes, steams, and waterfalls, the woods, fields, and flowers that are all right in their own backyard, often quite literally.

The idea is to start in my own home town, photographing the natural beauty and putting on shows at libraries, churches, coffee shops, etc. where the community can see what's hiding right here in town. These local shows would help raise awareness of what's available in our town, but also help people to appreciate the beauty that is immediately available to them.
