Lost Worlds of Tomorrow
Document the cultural treasures, natural wonders, and communities which are expected to be lost due to Global Climate Change. Focus will be primarily on low-lying coastal areas affected by anticipated rising ocean levels.
Global climate change, as widely accepted and studied in the worldwide scientific community, is anticipated to bring profound impacts to not just humanity but all of the Earth's ecosystems. While moderate steps are being taken to deal with climate change, the global scale and nature of the effected systems carry in its momentum a number of unavoidable impacts. Even if humanity were to meet a fully sustainable lifestyle today, for years global temperatures would continue to rise, the weather will continue to become more volatile, glaciers and polar regions will continue to melt. And, cultural and natural wonders will be lost.
The Maldives are one of the best known examples as these islands are already being inundated with rising ocean tides. But this current calamity will become the reality for many coastal areas, ranging from island nations to downtown Boston and Chesapeake Bay. Both cultural and natural wonders will be lost.
The intent of this project is to document the anticipated losses; to help better articulate what is at stake; to educate and inform others and be an impetus for greater actions and more swift changes.
