Earth's Most Dangerous Natural Wonders
My dream is to capture the Earth's most dangerous, powerful, and ephemeral natural wonders, in action. These are view points rarely seen by people, and those that have, rarely survive to tell about it.
My dream is to capture some of the Earth's most powerful, dangerous, and least photographed ephemeral natural wonders, in action. For example: raging flash floods deep inside the sensual slot canyons of America's Southwest, roaring snow avalanches rolling off dramatic mountain slopes in Alaska, or volcanic eruptions up close and personal. In order to get these unique, exciting, and dangerous viewpoints, I plan to combine my expertise in photography as well as engineering for a variety of safe approaches including remotely controlled cameras and triggering where necessary.
I believe this project will lead me to truly unique and exciting images that give a real appreciation for the world we live in. There are more than enough photos of beautiful places, and far too few that show the true power of nature's forces that have created this beauty. In this project I will seek out these moments, and with the right planning and equipment, will be able to photograph them safely for you to see and appreciate. These are experiences most people will never see, and those that do, rarely survive to tell about it; I plan to change that.

Best of luck Floris. (Make sure the budget for the remote gear is LARGE!)

Uh, yeah. You don't have a single image that could be considered dangerous. So you're saying you need 50 grand to produce one? Get real!
Maybe not Luther, but I'm no stranger to the wilderness. Note that I'm going to do this remotely. Alongside photography I'm a Caltech engineering PhD student with the two most prestigious science fellowships. So, with a bit of money I think I can get started with applying the ideas I have in mind.
good luck!
Since we share 1/2 the genes and many adventures, and knowing the person that you have become by efforts of your own at Cornell and now Caltech, I am convinced that combining your love for scientific / engineering challenges with creative nature photography would be a fabulous inspiration to us all.
best of luck to you floris....stay safe
goodluck!
sweet. good luck, dude.
So now your images are going to be *doubly* breathtaking!!
I'd be worried for your safety if I didn't have great confidence in your technical expertise!
Instead I'm enjoying the anticipation of some mind-blowing images!
Go, guy!

Best of luck Floris!
Send a flock of robotic birdies to take pictures from different angles, while waiting in a safe place for their return, or better have them transmit the pictures via wireless.
good luck, my idea is to help others by bringing awareness and unity for non-profits worldwide: http://www.nameyourdreamassignment.com/the-ideas/jenmay/unity-through-community/
Sounds Great Floris,
Good Luck
I like your idea!
Will you vote for me? Let's do this and see how it turns out. Let's help each other!
Good luck!
I'm intrigued. And mildly disturbed. But that has nothing to do with the contest.
Does this in some way relate to remote imaging devices???? Expiring minds want to know...
Unite against the “network” that is scheming votes. Support ideas that are “lost” due to unworthy ideas using low tactics. “Insulin” is not the best idea. Something is wrong here and many fantastic ideas are getting lost due to the “network.” If you like my idea on “Vanishing Cultures,” vote for it.
Good luck Floris.....
BTW - the W700 is a worthy prize itself. I bought one last week.... what a dream (monster) machine for photographers.
I love this idea! check out mine and Pic it if youd like! Congo here I come...

Great idea, Floris. I look forward to your bringing back some great images for a lot of people to see and to your live presentations detailling how you set up and captured them. Emphasis implicit on the word "live".
Good Luck!
