Snapshot Initiative

The Snapshot Initiative is a photo project that gives cameras to children in impoverished areas and allows them to tell their story with the end result being a published children's book with profits going back to the community.

The Snapshot Initiative is a photo project that puts the cameras and the story in the hands of the underprivileged children throughout the world while giving them a voice and a mode of creating income for their community.
The project began in 2006 in Meru, Kenya. Over 25 disposable cameras and journals were sent to a small village and given to various children ages 6-18 willing to participate in the project. The children shot photos of their everyday lives and kept notes about the details with the intention that the photos would become a book for young children across the globe where the majority of the profits would return to their village.
The goal of the snapshot initiative is to take the photo project world wide. To allow the children of these native areas a chance to tell their stories and gain an opportunity for commerce in their area. These children have so much pride, happiness and sense of community to share despite their struggles and pain.
Storytelling not only restores a sense of pride in the community but a new found sense of power in what otherwise might be a victim of global society. This project needs your help! We need to reach more children, more areas and we need funding to publish these beautiful lives.

PLEASE VOTE FOR US! VOTE FOR THE CHILDREN!
