IN HARMS WAY-Exploring the Bond Between Humans and Animals
I'm looking to do a photography documentary exploring the bond between people who dedicate their lives to looking after animals in harms way around the world. An elephant orphanage in Kenya,Dog an orangutan sanctuary in Borneo, and may more.
For this project I will need to travel to each continent to document the amazing people who have dedicate their lives to rescuing animals. This will require me spending quality time with these individuals and using my camera to patiently photograph the moments that best show the bond they have with the animals they look after. For the final piece I want to produce a book and multimedia presentation accompanied by each caretaker answering the simple question of “Why they do what they do”. Some places that I have in mind already are the following; an orangutan sanctuary in Borneo, an elephant orphanage in Kenya, an endangered animal sanctuary in Bolivia, and many more. The story will conclude with me retracing my roots and documenting my mother in the USA, she fosters 7 rescue dogs.
I too am an animal lover and have been a vegetarian for 10 years. It breaks my heart to see animals slaughtered for whatever reason and for most of my adult life I have tried my best to block it out whenever I see an animal being abused or even killed. All these people are an inspiration to me and my hopes for his project are for these people to inspire others. I want to this project to remind people that we are all living things and to respect the living all around the world.
