To show the power of acknowledgment in creating connection in our communities –from our families to our global community. When we acknowledge another person, even in the simplest of ways, we transform the relationship and create connection.

The assignment will capture the everyday acts that people perform, and document the impact on their communities and how they make a difference for others – their families, in their towns, schools, and our global community. The purpose of the photos will be to educate and raise awareness of how the simplest acts acknowledgment make a difference.

Why is this important? Neighbors don’t know one another. Kids in school stick to their groups or some kids aren’t welcome in any group. We don’t take the time to know our colleagues at work. We don’t talk to family members. But somehow we have opinions of people we don’t know and we’re quick to be critical and judgmental. Our daily conversations revolve around being cynical and resigned; there’s an absence of acknowledgement and seeing the value of others and ourselves. In each moment, in each interaction with another, we can someone down or provide for their greatness or contribution. By acknowledging others we create a connection and relatedness that didn't exist previously such that people take on greater awareness of the contribution, however small, of others and themselves. The act of acknowledging someone has an impact on both individuals.
