Create a photo book of the Budik tribe in beautiful West Africa
I grew up among the Budik tribe in Southern Senegal, West Africa. This tribe is filled with some of the most beautiful people you will ever meet, inside and out, and I want to spend a year there cataloguing individual and tribal stories.
The Budik tribe lives in the small village of Chobo, in beautiful southern Senegal. I grew up among these people and would love the opportunity to return and document the changes that have taken place. Many have grown up, many married, some have died.
The region is mountainous and has two seasons, rainy and dry. African storms are breathtaking, the sky grows dark and violent and the rain comes down from the mountains in sheets while we dance in the fields. In the dry season the watering holes dry up and food supplies start to run out.
I want to spend a year in this tribe, living in a mud house with a grass roof photographing daily village life.
With the prize money I would start a sustainable business in Chobo, the creation and sale of free trade African fabrics. Everything would be produced in the village for the benefit of the village, from growing the cotton to spinning it into thread to weaving it into cloth and sewing it into beautiful wearable art.
Help me make this dream a reality. There will always be a place for you in Chobo.

Wonderful project with a wonderful personal connection, something which is sadly often lacking. Will pray that your dream comes off, and would love to hear more when you win!
God luck on this. Lived/worked in Senegal in 2004/2006, also in the South (Ziguinchor). Beautiful region and wonderful people. I really hope you get this one Karamik.
