Dance Around the World
My dream assignment is to use my camera and video camera to document the traditions, celebrations, joys, sorrows, and passion of people through their respective dances, showing the unique power of the human spirit to triumph via dance.
Dance is a primal form of communication and a symbolic language that unites people of different ethnicities, culture, and customs. History shows that dance endures the tests and trials of time, and provides healing and harmony between ourselves and our world. In this current era of economic depression and oppression, I will provide an uplifting story on how people of different cultures use dance as a means of celebration and escape despite the apparent overwhelming challenges within their societies.
From the whirling dervishes of Turkey to the tribal war dances of Uganda, from the devil dances of Sri Lanka, to the break dancing of young Americans, my photography will examine the place of traditional dance in contemporary world cultures through the stunning forms of movement, the vivid colors of costumes, and the emotion, integrity, and power of the dancer.
I have the skills and dedication to make this dream a reality. I am a world champion Irish dancer, have taught dance classes, and have dance contacts throughout the world. I am also a gifted and experienced photographer, and I have funded my own travels to document the cultures of 15 countries during the past several years. My photography has been published in national and international publications, and has been featured in several art galleries. My passion for photography, dance, travel, and learning about new cultures is matched only by my compassion for my subjects. As a result, I have the insight and intuition to capture unique images that would otherwise elude the camera.
Deliverables for this project would include:
1) a travelling photography exhibit
2) a hard-cover book displaying the photos and history of the dances and traditions
3) an ongoing, participatory blog site used for uniting dancers throughout the world

I think it is an awsome idea. I don't think there is anybody who can capture the true spirit of dance through the lens of a camera or a video camera like you. Your experience as a gifted dancer and photographer is well proven... I hope you win!
