Promoting Literacy Through Photography: A Child's Literary Journey thru Photography & Storytelling

We'll take a photographic/literary journey through four classic childhood books. Listen and watch as storytellers bring these books to life against a backdrop of images representing each book's specific theme. Open to all ages.

This project will address the idea of promoting Children's Literacy through Interactive Storytelling and Photography.

I will be taking photographs based on the themes represented in each of the following classic children's books:

The Giving Tree (Shel Silverstein) –
Theme - Unconditional Love

Oh, The Places You Will Go (Dr. Seuss) – Theme - Adventures/Positive thinking

Love You Forever (Robert N. Munsch)
Theme - Mother/Child relationship

Guess How Much I Love You (Sam McBratney) Theme - Father/Child relationship

Once the photographs have been taken, I will organize a series of live performances for school assemblies, libraries and the general public whereby volunteer storytellers will read from these particular books as the photographs I have taken are projected behind them, each photo depicting a particular moment in the story.

The project's goals:
1. to have children experience the excitement of having a live performance of storytellers reading to them in their school or classroom
2. offer parents and the general public an opportunity to bring their children to a live event that deals with literacy
3. have children connect positive experiences in what they are reading to the world around them through the art of photography

Good ideas like yours that are not in the Top 100 are nearly impossible to find. This is unfair as many great ideas are hidden. Those of us in the “Sub-100” should work together to promote the best projects of the Sub-100 so that they can be in the Top 100 and be seen. Please vote for best Sub-100s!
