to be Sensual...
My dream assignment would be to collect and translate the art of sensuality through live music, dance and ritual from some of the most sensual places on the planet; culminating in a multimedia exhibition.
My dream assignment would involve initiating the reconnection to that which is sensual; for that we must know what it looks like, feels like, tastes like, smells like and sounds like. My dream would be to collect sensuality from India to Iceland, Brazil to Morocco; showing the richness of each location and capturing images that stimulate all of the senses; focusing on live music, dance and ritual.
Imagine the texture of freshly oiled skin as the sun creates beads of perspiration after yoga or the feeling of a soft breeze atop a scenic mountain while picking fragrant sprigs of sage. What is the texture of silica mud? How does it feel when combined with the geothermal waters of the Bláa Lónið (Blue Lagoon)? How does sensuality appear in the cultural rituals and dances like that of the Mohiniyattam, a solo dance performed by women in India invoking the blessings of Lord Ganesha. What about the sensuality of the mobile restaurants of Djemaa el Fna in Morocco or the sensuality of the Atlas Mountains. These are things I want to answer with my dream assignment. How does sensuality relate to these places and the people who come to be in them?
At the “end” of this ongoing journey will be an exhibition that embodies the five senses; from the sounds of the cities visited to the flavors and textiles. Accompanying me on the trip would be 1 DSLR, 3 lenses, 1 HD video camera and operator, 1 mic and 1 digital sound recorder and the Lenovo Thinkpad W700 with Windows Vista (should I win it) to capture all of the senses. My sensuality is driving me to do this project. I am being urged to touch… taste… to explore these places from a fully sensual perspective.
